melting crayons

We decided to use this frigid day for some extra art time. I got the boys busy peeling crayons, a job they’ve done in the past without being asked. I warmed up the electric griddle and fitted paper to size. Both boys thought art time was done once their crayons were peeled; little did they know, the fun had just begun! They had a great time creating and exploring with the melting crayon. They each made two pieces of art and then decided to do an experiment.

They each placed a small crayon on the paper and watched it melt. One melted quicker. The hypothesis was that one side of the griddle was hotter than the other. I suggested that maybe the crayons were made slightly differently so the wax was different.

Courben and Judah both insisted on doing this art project again!
